Used so often that Amazon has its own place on my toolbar
I've been using Amazon for years now, and have always found it more than satisfactory. Of late, I've tended to buy from marketplace sellers, if I can find one a lot cheaper than Amazon itself, and have never been sorry. Many of the larger UK bookshops are among the marketplace sellers. One of them, the Book Depository, has become my favourite bookseller. For a start, it never makes any bones about mailing to Ireland from the UK, whereas other shops seem to accept the order and then cancel it, or else say that they are unable to send to me at my address but will do so if I can provide a UK address - most annoying. I also like Aprohead Books, and both it and the Book Depository have very high ratings for reliability, which I have found to be borne out. But Amazon itself has never failed me when I ordered a book and, of course, I wouldn't have discovered the other shops without it. As a family we have bought not just books, but also CDs, DVDs and a camera, and have never had any bother with any of the orders. My one quibble is to do with communication, which spills over into customer service: a couple of times I have had a query and been unable to find the answer among the ones they offered, but have also been unable to discover how to contact them directly about it. It's only when this happens that you get a sense of a robotic presence behind the site rather than real people. Luckily, I haven't had to try to contact them about anything really serious, but if I did have to I think I would find it a difficult job.
